In production book #272, which is the first book of the ’66 model year, starting at August 1 1995. Machine #3217 despatched November 1965 is noted as the begining of matching frames and engine numbers.
These bikes were sent to the USA to comply with the new California regulations.
However there were a substantial number of already stamped engines & frames in the factory so there are a lot of bikes despatched after this date with mismatched numbers most of which ended up being “Home & General Export” models.
Unfortunately may of these found their way to Canada and latter to the USA so you can find 1966 titled bikes in the USA with both matched & mismatched numbers.

Something I don’t know about TYPING.
Have edited the original post to 1965 as it should have been.
